The Role
WIRED is seeking a creative, news-obsessed Associate Manager of Social Media to join our Audience Development team. This role will work closely with WIRED’s editorial staff to shape how our journalism shows up across social platforms—translating breaking news, enterprise reporting, and cultural coverage into engaging, platform-native storytelling.
The Associate Manager will help grow WIRED’s loyal audience by increasing engagement, social referrals, and overall reach across platforms. This is a highly collaborative role for someone who understands both journalism and the fast-moving dynamics of social media.
This role is based in our London office.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, schedule, and optimise daily posts across multiple platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and Bluesky
- Craft clear, accurate, and compelling social copy that adapts WIRED articles into Threads, Instagram carousels, and other platform-specific formats
- Partner closely with editors and reporters to roll out major packages, scoops, and breaking news across social platforms
- Create and/or build creative assets tailored to each platform, including images, short-form video, and text-forward formats
- Ensure posts are optimised for performance and consistently tracked, analysed, and reported on
- Brainstorm new content ideas and test rollout strategies in collaboration with the Audience Development team
- Monitor social conversations and identify opportunities for timely, reactive content that drives engagement
- Collaborate with the social team and editors to refine social headlines, framing, and descriptions
Person Specification
- At least 2 years of experience managing social media for a brand, newsroom, or publisher
- A deep interest in politics, technology, science, and culture
- Strong editorial judgement about where, when, and whether content should be shared across platforms, particularly in community-driven spaces like Reddit
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to adapt voice and tone by platform
- A strong understanding of social media trends and how to translate them into effective, on-brand content
- Experience optimising social content for engagement and/or traffic, informed by performance data
- Comfort working with social analytics and using insights to guide strategy and experimentation
- Experience using social publishing, scheduling, and analytics tools
- Familiarity with WIRED’s journalism, audience, and voice
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- A sense of humour, curiosity, and flexibility in an ever-changing media landscape
- An entrepreneurial mindset balanced with operational rigour and follow-through
