Overview
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Avon and Somerset is seeking a News and Social Media Manager to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. This hybrid/remote role offers a salary range of £38,169 to £48,459 per year. The successful candidate will support day-to-day communications, develop social media channels, and deliver engaging digital content that promotes the Police and Crime Commissioner’s priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a media plan across social, digital and print platforms.
- Create, edit and publish high-quality, innovative content showcasing the work and impact of the PCC.
- Accompany the PCC and Deputy PCC on engagements to generate engaging and informative content.
- Monitor and manage online communities, engaging with followers appropriately.
- Build relationships with local influencers and external partners to enhance reach and reputation.
- Monitor, track, analyse and respond to social media performance.
- Produce regular insights and recommendations based on social media monitoring.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years’ relevant experience in news and social media, a strong sense of civic duty, and an interest in news and current affairs. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and determination to achieve results are essential.

Additional Information
Government plans are underway to transfer functions under the Police and Crime Commissioner model to a Police and Crime Board in May 2028, as part of reforms introduced by the Police Reform Bill. While the OPCC’s functions will continue under the new model, specific arrangements are still being defined. These changes aim to improve coordination with local services across Avon and Somerset.
