Overview
Motability Foundation is seeking a Social Media Manager on an 18-month full-time contract (37.5 hours per week) based in Harlow, Essex. The role reports to the Digital Communications Manager and offers blended working with a minimum of two days per week in the office or at key stakeholder meetings. The salary range is £39,000 – £44,000. The location is easily commutable from London Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale Station, with free minibus service, parking, and EV charging available on site.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Motability Foundation during the launch of its five-year strategy aimed at building transport equity for disabled people in the UK. The Social Media Manager will monitor trends and conversations in the transport and disability sectors to identify engagement opportunities. The role involves creating original content for digital channels, amplifying the voices of disabled people, and supporting strategic aims through timely and relevant communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Social media management and community building
- Manage day-to-day social media channels including LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Foster community engagement by responding to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and brand-aligned manner.
- Develop and implement community-building initiatives such as user-generated content and beneficiary support stories.
- Ensure all content is accessible, following best practice guidelines (e.g. alt text, video captions).
- Content creation and storytelling
- Create original, on-brand social media content including written copy, graphics, short videos, infographics, and carousel posts.
- Develop content that communicates impact and encourages calls to action such as grant applications or case study sign-ups.
- Collaborate with the Content and Stories Executive and Communications team to source stories and content opportunities.
- Maintain the digital content calendar in coordination with the Digital Communications team.
- Campaign planning and execution
- Lead integrated digital awareness-raising campaigns combining organic social, paid social, email, and web content.
- Manage campaign creative, scheduling, and coordination to ensure timely execution and message alignment.
- Work with partner organisations and external agencies to deliver high-quality campaign assets.
- Social listening, analytics and reporting
- Use social listening tools to track sentiment, conversations, and emerging trends in the transport and disability sectors.
- Develop and monitor KPIs including reach, engagement, conversion, and sentiment, producing regular performance reports.
- Translate insights into actionable recommendations for content, community, and campaign optimisation.
- Use A/B testing or experimentation to improve performance.
- Strategy development and implementation
- Support the development of a long-term social media strategy aligned with the charity’s five-year strategy.
- Help define audience segments, tone of voice, content pillars, channel priorities, and success metrics.
- Contribute to cross-functional strategy discussions to align social media with wider organisational goals.
- Stay informed on social media trends, platform changes, emerging tools, and best practices in the charity sector.
- Risk management and brand governance
- Ensure all social content aligns with brand guidelines, tone of voice, and organisational values.
- Escalate reputational or safeguarding risks to the Digital Communications Manager and Communications team.
- Support the development and implementation of social media policies, guidelines, and process maps.
Your Experience
- Proven success in a dedicated social media or digital communications role, ideally within a charity or public sector organisation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, able to translate complex information into clear narratives.
- Experience developing and running social media campaigns using both organic and paid content.
- Skilled in content creation including writing, graphic design (e.g. Canva, Adobe Express), and basic video production/editing.
- Proficient in using social analytics and listening tools to measure performance and generate insights.
- Experience managing multi-channel campaigns combining social media with email and website content.
- Competent in managing content calendars and coordinating with multiple teams.
- Familiarity with social scheduling and management tools such as Sprout Social or Emplifi.
- Experience in reporting, A/B testing, or content optimisation is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of digital communication channels, social media strategy, and content optimisation.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple projects, and perform in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with or for disabled people’s organisations or charities.
- Experience editing website pages using CMS platforms such as Umbraco or WordPress.
- Experience partnering with external agencies or consultants.
- Understanding of SEO, UX, and accessibility best practices with practical application.
