About the Role
We are seeking a strategic, experienced, and creative Social Media Manager to lead social campaigns for some of the BBC’s biggest programmes, with a strong focus on BBC Three. Reporting to the Head of Social, iPlayer and Three, you will line manage a team of four and work closely with social production, edit, and planning teams.
This role is central to delivering a coherent and consistent social media experience for UK audiences aged 16–34, with a strong focus on 16–24-year-olds. You will oversee campaigns that maximise reach and engagement, deliver high-quality creative content, and drive journeys to iPlayer and other BBC platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead social media campaigns across platforms, acting as the strategic and editorial lead.
- Collaborate with publishing, production, edit, and planning teams to align social strategy with broadcast output.
- Work closely with commissioning to plan and guide social activity around priority programmes.
- Manage team resources and processes to maximise engaged reach among UK under-35s.
- Ensure campaigns meet quality metrics while delivering relevance and scale.
- Engage with talent and content stakeholders to align programme priorities with social activity.
- Report campaign performance and insights to senior stakeholders.
- Contribute to the BBC’s creative development in the social space by setting campaign-level strategies and driving innovation.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience delivering integrated social media projects alongside broadcast output, ideally within TV or audiovisual media.
- A track record of managing major TV shows or brand campaigns on social media, including strategy, content creation, community management, and analytics-driven decision-making.
- Understanding of media production and commissioning processes.
- Strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to drive new initiatives and shape strategic thinking.
- Experience managing teams and mentoring staff.
- Deep understanding of audience behaviours across platforms, devices, and content types, and the ability to translate this into effective social strategies.
- Proven ability to manage and nurture stakeholder relationships across production, talent, and internal teams.
