About British Cycling

British Cycling exists to bring the joy of cycling to everyone. We have embarked on an exciting new journey, with a modernised commercial and events offering grounded in social impact and storytelling, harnessing the spotlight and inspiration of our athletes’ performance on the world stage, and our growing portfolio of major events.

We are working towards three key priorities outlined in our strategy:

  • To support and grow the sport to make cycling more inclusive and accessible
  • To lead on the world stage by winning and winning well
  • To drive social impact by tackling inequalities through providing opportunities

Who are we?

We represent a community of more than 140,000 loyal members and the 27 million who ride a bike nationwide – whether they’re racing, riding for fun, commuting, or competing for medals with the Great Britain Cycling Team.

The Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Women and Men are the biggest free-to-watch sporting events in Britain, generating £33.3 million of direct economic impact, spreading the joy of cycling and creating positive social impact through communities across the country.

Sitting within our Brand and Engagement Directorate, the Marketing and Content team passionately delivers work to increase our reach and relevance, telling stories about our events, members, programmes and impact, elevating the profile of our work.

Social Media Officer

Are you ready to help shape the voice and presence of British Cycling online? We are looking for a Social Media Officer to support the delivery of our multi-channel social media plans across three branded accounts: British Cycling, Lloyds Tour of Britain, and the Great Britain Cycling Team.

You will play a key role in bringing our sport to life digitally by inspiring people to ride their bikes, building excitement around Britain’s biggest races, and celebrating the achievements of the nation’s best riders.

At the heart of this role is storytelling and community management with real social impact. You will help deliver British Cycling’s strategy to get more people on bikes by creating and sharing content that inspires participation, celebrates grassroots stories, and connects communities. Through the Lloyds Tour of Britain, you will bring the drama and excitement of Britain’s biggest races to life, while with the Great Britain Cycling Team, you will showcase performances that inspire the next generation.

Your work will shape how cycling is seen, shared, and celebrated across the country.

About you

  • You thrive as part of a creative, fast-paced team, building positive relationships with colleagues, riders, fans, and external partners.
  • You might be at the start of your professional career but bring a proactive, can-do attitude and a hunger to learn.
  • You have proven skills in social media content creation – including writing captions, creating carousels, editing reels, or designing quick-turnaround graphics.
  • You are confident in community management: engaging audiences, answering questions, and handling sensitive topics with care.
  • Knowledge of cycling is a bonus, but more important is your drive to find “gold dust” content opportunities and turn them into thumb-stopping posts that people want to share.

What will you be doing?

  • Supporting the Creative Social Manager on content planning, production, and publishing across British Cycling, Tour of Britain, and Great Britain Cycling Team channels.
  • Helping shape and implement social media plans that balance three distinct brand voices: community, event, and elite sport.
  • Creating content that engages and grows audiences – from graphics and video to captions and stories – ensuring consistency of tone and style.
  • Leading on community management by actively monitoring and driving conversations, responding to comments, and fostering positive online engagement.
  • Using analytics and reporting tools to feedback on performance and make data-led recommendations.
  • Contributing ideas for new features, formats, and campaigns, keeping pace with the latest social media and digital trends.
  • Supporting live event coverage, working flexibly across some evenings and weekends (with time off in lieu).

What are the perks?

  • Competitive salary
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Generous holidays (25 days plus bank holidays)
  • Holiday purchase scheme
  • Life Assurance
  • Pension
